Metabolic Syndrome – Silent Killer

Call for Help

Recently, in the middle of the night, our carbon monoxide alarms went off, all of them.

When the first one went off, we thought it might be the battery. But when I opened the door to the furnace room and could smell and see something, I knew there was more going on. We knew that carbon monoxide doesn’t look or smell like anything and yet we found cloudy acrid air when we opened the door. And that is when the other CO alarms started going off.

We quickly grabbed our cat, her carrier, our coats, and phones, turned off our heating system, went outside and called the fire department.

We waited only for a few minutes in the cold, not very long (they are an amazing all volunteer group) but it seemed like forever.

An hour later, the EMTs confirmed we were ok, the fire department’s fans cleared all that remained of the CO and the house was again safe. The heater was off, with a call for repairs set for the morning. We closed the windows. We reattached our CO monitors, now once again reading zero.  We fed our cat. We went back to bed.

But when my head again hit the pillow, things were different.

Wake-Up Call

It was a reminder, a literal wake-up call, that something I took for granted, tomorrow, was not guaranteed.

We all know that carbon monoxide is a silent killer. That is why we have alarms, to let us know when we are at risk.

As you know, I am one for analogies. I immediately thought about all of you and why I do what I do.

Lifestyle Alarm

Metabolic Syndrome and most chronic health conditions are silent killers too. But the warnings are not as noticeable.

  • Instead of alarms that jolt us out of bed with clear readings, we have medications that mask the underlying numbers and treat symptoms, not the root cause, giving us a false sense of security.
  • We rely on complex and misleading food labels, that is, when we invest the time to read them at all.
  • The medical and insurance industries all too often reward activity and relative numbers rather than quality and quantity of life outcomes.
  • Sadly, there are many who profit from misinformation.

Our lifestyle alarms are more muffled or nuanced and, therefore, it can take longer to ‘wake up’ and get to a safe place. Some of us never do.

Let this post be your alarm: A plant-based lifestyle can help eliminate those risks and give you back many tomorrows.

What you do with this information will determine… everything.

It’s time to wake up.

If you are standing in the ‘driveway’ of your life in your pajamas with your cat wondering who you can call to help lessen your risk of fewer tomorrows, reduce the need for medications, and reverse your chronic health conditions, I can help.

Think of it as changing the batteries to give yourself a boost and lower your risk.

Be safe. xoxo
